Downtown Holiday Market
Washington, DC Chinatown
November 28-December 23
Great opportunity to grab holiday-themed images of people enjoying themselves.
Alexandria DC Holiday Boat Parade of Lights
Alexandria, but you can see this from many place in SW DC
Saturday, December 6
Lighted boats! I might actually go to this one. Also, you can see the boats from lots of places in SW DC, my favorite of course being Cantina Marina. If you go there, be sure and ask for the manager and tell him “Roll Tide!”
Season’s Greetings
November 27, 2014-January 4, 2015
United States Botanic Gardens
This seems to involve a combination of plants, a “nautical wonderland” and model trains. In other words, photographic possibilities are endless. I’m definitely going to try and do this.
Zoolights, Powered by Pepco
November 28-January 1 (Excepting December 24, 25 and 31)
Winning this year’s award for most amusing product placement in amateur video, Zoolights looks to be more than just lights. The site says they’ll have shopping and food, as well, so really, everyone wins. In general, the Zoo does a great job of fun family events, and I’ll probably try and make this one, too.
National Christmas Tree
December 6, 2014
I’d be remiss not to list this, but it seems like this is typically a tourist attraction, and lacks the variety of event that I normally like to shoot. But I’m sure the National Christmas Tree lighting is an important patriotic event for some, so, yeah, Go America!
Update…adding the following event that just hit my inbox:
Full Moons, Bald Eagles and Lighthouses
December 6 and 7
North East, MD (appx. 2 hours out of Silver Spring)
Vickie Lewis, a local pro photographer with great credentials, is putting this trip together. She runs the Montgomery Country photographer group. I don’t normally feature events that are outside of metro DC, but this looks like a great opportunity and you don’t find a of lot of photography trips for less than $1k or so. I’d do this one if I could.
